Services - Policies
The Fox Theatre is a non-smoking facility as established under California State Law. This policy will be strictly enforced within all areas of the building.
The use of cameras and video & audio recorders is regulated by the promoter of each event. Please check the calendar section to see if these devices will be allowed for a specific event.
For purposes of public safety and effective crowd management, the Fox Theatre, at its discretion, may conduct a search of guests attending an event. The magnitude and intensity of the search will depend on the type of event and the nature of the crowd attending.
- Permission will only be granted to vendors or radio stations having a formal sponsorship or promotional agreement with the promoter of the event.
- The Fox Theatre reserves the right to limit the number as well as the size of promotional tables, displays, and vehicles allowed on the premises. The Fox Theatre Management will assign actual locations.
- Promotional vehicles will not be allowed on theatre property until three (3) hours to the scheduled start of the event. To avoid impacting the neighborhood, volume levels must be kept at moderate levels. Vehicles must exit the premises no later than 30 minutes after the event is over or upon request of the Fox Theatre Management. Promotional vehicles must be self-sufficient regarding power requirements, telephone lines and must be staffed the entire time they are parked on Fox Theatre property.
- Banners, posters, balloons, stickers, etc., are not to be affixed to Fox Theatre property, including barricades and trash receptacles, without advance authorization from the Fox Theatre Management. No permanent signage may be covered, removed or altered to prevent exposure at the event. Vendor understands that sign or banner must not impair the view of any guest within the Fox Theatre. Any vendor or radio station which affixes banners, etc. without written approval or who causes damage to wall or ceiling surfaces will be subject to a $100 fee per item.
- Flyers, promotional items or handouts cannot be distributed without written approval from the Fox Theatre Management. At no time will flyers or other promotional materials be placed on vehicles in surrounding parking lots. Any vendor or radio station which distributes promotional items without written approval will be subject to a $250 penalty fee.
- The Fox Theatre does not generally allow any brochures, literature, propaganda, stickers, promotional items, paraphernalia, etc. to be handed out to guests inside or outside of the facility. From time to time, the Fox Theatre Management may deem it in the best interest of the Fox Theatre guests to allow the distribution of material. Vendor must provide a sample of what is to be given out prior to the event. The material must be directly related to the event, information contained in the material cannot be of such nature that it could be construed as vulgar, offensive or outside of what the community standard would consider in good taste.
- Any vendor or radio station not adhering to these policies may be denied future access.
If it is determined that a search is necessary for a given event, the promoter of that event will be required to pay and/or supply additional staffing required. Number of staff may range from two to eight attendants at each entry way to visually search the guests, to a large number of staff (combination of police officers, peer group security and door attendants) to search each guest by voluntary physical pat-down or metal detection device. The exact number of staff that will be used for such purposes, as well as the costs, will be determined by the Fox Theatre Management.
When anticipated that certain items might be brought into an event, but the volatility of the crowd is low, a visual will be done at each entrance in the following manner:
- Visual scan of each guest as they enter the Fox Theatre.
- The guest is asked to open his/her coat, then asked to open any purses or hand bags, displaying the contents to the searcher.
- If an inappropriate item is found, the guest will be given the option to dispose of the item before entry or take it back to their vehicle. If the item is of an illegal nature, Redwood City Police will be brought in for investigation.
This type of search is designed to be done as quickly and effectively as possible so as not to slow down the ingress of the crowd. Unless a guest is asked to open their handbag or coat, the majority do not realize they have been searched. Inappropriate items will include, but not be limited to, firearms, knives, coolers, video cameras, food and beverages, laser pens and noise makers.
The following are cause for eviction from the Fox Theatre:
