Renovated Fox to offer full schedule
November, 7 2001
The owners of the newly refurbished Fox Theatre in downtown Redwood City will announce a full schedule of entertainment at an official unveiling this morning.
The 1,400-seat venue has entered a partnership agreement with Montalvo, the Saratoga nonprofit organization that brought musical talent to the Mountain Winery until recently. Montalvo, which has already produced shows by Dave Brubeck, Tom Jones and the blues singer Keb' Mo' at the Fox, will present performances of "Aladdin" and "A Christmas Carol," the comedians Tim Conway and Harvey Korman, the Boys Choir of Harlem and many other shows at the theater. Details of a winter subscription series will be announced soon.
Other promoters will bring events to the Fox, too, including the Dark Star Orchestra with Big Brother & the Holding Company on Nov. 17, the Peninsula Ballet Theatre's production of "The Nutcracker" on Dec. 7-8 and a KFOG holiday show with Melissa Etheridge, Better Than Ezra and Luce on Dec. 12. The theater also plans to screen movie premieres and classic revivals.
First opened in 1929, the Gothic Revival Fox Theatre was renovated with an Art Deco interior in 1950. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. Co-owners John Anagnostou and Mike Monte bought the theater in 1998. For more information, call (650) 369-4119 or go to www.foxdream.com.
