Fox Theatre lands a rock 'n' roll gig

The historic Fox Theatre in downtown Redwood City, which once played host to vaudeville acts, goes rock 'n' roll in December with a special fund-raising concert with Melissa Etheridge.
Fox Theatre owner John Anagnostou has long championed the revitalization of downtown Redwood City and has been promising to bring nationally-known acts to bring people into the city's heart.
Sponsored by KFOG-FM, the concert features both Etheridge and Better than Ezra, bringing big-name acts to a downtown once known as Deadwood City. Local unsigned band Luce (pronounced "Lucy") will also perform.
The concert takes placed Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. and is the 16th year KFOG has sponsored an annual Concert For Kids. This year, the money will go to the Make a Wish Foundation and Toys for Tots.
KFOG DJ Buzz said the station settled on the Fox because it was looking to do more events to cater to its listeners in the South Bay. KFOG airs on the FM dial at 104.5 in San Francisco and 97.7 in San Jose.
Listeners further up the Peninsula can enjoy a Concert For Kids in their vicinity when Stevie Nicks plays the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco on Dec. 9.
The show, booked Thursday by KFOG, features the latest headliner-- Keb Mo and Torn Jones played previously at the Fox -- and Anagnostou promises many more, although the ink isn't yet dry on the contracts so the names can't be revealed. But acts that are confirmed include the Dark Star Orchestra (a Grateful Dead cover band) and Big Brother and the Holding Company on Nov. 17-1 and Tim Conway and Harvey Korman on Feb 3.
