Nikki McKibbin is best known for her stand up rock em' out performance on American Idol Season 1, where she placed third behind Kelly Clarkson. One of the show's highlights features Nikki bringing down the house with her rendition of Janis Joplin's "Piece Of My Heart". Another high point of the show was Nikki's rockin' version of the smash hit song "Black Velvet". Immediately following her stint on American Idol, McKibbin signed with 19 Management and RCA Records and in May of 2005, McKibbin joined Dallas rock band Downside. They did several shows together including a sold out show at the Hard Rock Cafe in Dallas. Recording then began with manager-producer Joe Cannizzaro in December 2005, starting with a cover of "To Be With You" by Mr. Big.

Seems that local metal group Rivethead and American Idol almost finalist Nikki McKibbin will head out on tour together. Nikki McKibbin came in 3rd on the first season of American Idol, earning her a loyal fan base worldwide and a lucrative recording contract [that] she turned down. Rivethead has been asked to tour with Nikki, both as her opening band and as her backing band as well as to go into the recording studio to record tracks for her upcoming release set for May 1st. Don't expect to hear pop princess cookie cutter mediocre yawn tracks from this American Idol and Dallas band. Nothing that ever touched the American Idol stage and got respect ever sounded anything like this.
