Emerging from the late 60's San Francisco psychedelic scene THE SONS OF
CHAMPLIN were relatively unusual among Bay Area bands for favoring more
soul influenced material. Their funky Hammond B-3 and horns sound was
utterly distinctive and quite unlike the rest of the Bay Area’s
psychedelic guitar bands. The Sons of Champlin are very much a part of the rich tapestry that was the San Francisco music scene of the Fillmore and Avalon Ballrooms. Now they have re-mastered a CD compliation from original tapes available for the first time on CD. This two album-set entitled “The Ariola Years” features works from “The Sons of Champlin”, affectionately know as Gold Mine, “Circle Filled With Love”, and “Loving Is Why”. Join Bill Champlin (vocals, organ, and guitar), Geoff Palmer (keyboards, vibraphone, and baritone sax), bassist David Schallock, drummer James Preston, and guitarist Carmen Grillo, with guest artists forming the horn section as they present their new CD tonight at the Big Fox!
Celebrating the human spirit, philosophical themes driven by funk infused R&B and jazz based tempos continue to set the Sons apart. Often hard to define because of their eclectic mix of material, the Sons were playing acid jazz before it had a name. Always known for their outstanding musicianship, they have become the benchmark against which other players have measured their chops.

Join Bing and the Bingtones as they perform their style of "Rhythmic Nighttime Music with a Soul", reminiscent of the great horn groups of the 70's and 80's such as Tower of Power, Sons of Champlin and Cold Blood. Bing, an east coast native of New Jersey, is a hopeless romantic who has composed music that richly describes our life and thoughts from everything from love to our lives since 911. Bing has joined forces with the "Funk Administrator" and co-producer Jerry Pelizzer to put the heartbeat and soul to Bing's music. The Bingtones are composed of veteran musicians who have played with the likes of Malo, Cold Blood, Santana and Etta James. With such a wide spectrum of experience the Bingtones have hit the ground running in bringing to life the music that Bing and Jerry have put together.
